Legacy Leadership 2023: Summer Community of Practice Highlights
The Legacy Leadership Executives have finished their incredible summer Community of Practice. In sharing space at The Lola (one of SageD’s community partners), these amazing leaders came together for a series of six summer gatherings that consisted of two main components:
A 1-hour workshop led by a knowledgeable Black woman guest facilitator who specializes in a specific topic related to cultivating authentic leadership.
A 1-hour session dedicated to implementing and practicing the newly acquired skills and knowledge, skillfully facilitated by Sagdrina Brown Jalal, the founder of SageD Consulting and creator of Legacy Leadership.
Covering a wide range of essential leadership areas, their transformative sessions addressed topics such as daily habits, work-life balance, retirement planning, and holistic well-being. The goal is to equip the Executives with the necessary tools to excel in their work, effortlessly sustain their efforts, and maximize their impact for the greater good, so each session is tailored to meet the unique needs of these dynamic leaders, offering practical advice and strategies that can be immediately applied to their personal and professional lives.
The sessions are as listed below; to read a full recap of the sessions, check out The Lola’s blog:
Session 1: “Honing Your Habits: Reimagining Your Daily Goals” | Led by Paige Rane

What is a Community of Practice?
The Community of Practice(CoP) structure is designed to support these leaders in their personal and professional growth. It fosters knowledge sharing and transfer, collaborative learning, reflective practice, skill development and mastery, as well as networking and relationship building. By actively engaging with each other, the Executives have been able to tap into diverse perspectives, challenge assumptions, and deepen their understanding of relevant topics.
The Legacy Leadership Community of Practice aims to support Black women leaders who face barriers in sustaining their work and increasing their impact based on the systemic racism that fuels inequity in philanthropy.
The founder of SageD Consulting and Legacy Leadership, Sagdrina Brown Jalal, understands the incredible impact of Black women in their communities. However, her research on inequity in the social impact sector coupled with her personal experiences has gleaned her awareness for the lack of respect for their leadership in Atlanta, the most unequal city in America.
The Legacy Leadership Community of Practice is an active antidote to this, serving as scaffolding for these leaders to stand confidently in their authentic leadership by supporting them in sustaining their work and increasing their impact.
